Companion Planting Part 5

Companion Planting Plan: Where and Why

Finally, we have arrived at Part 5 where I am sharing the layout for each of our four garden beds identifying what and where I plant the vegetables, herbs, and flowers to create a productive garden and hospitable habitat for beneficial insects.

Let’s begin with the overall picture of the garden beds which reside in our front yard!

Shelf Life of Seeds

Vegetables, Herbs, and Flowers

Seeds have a shelf life…all living things do.  In our Harvest to Table playlist, Collards Part 2, I spent some time discussing proper storage of seeds, optimal conditions, etc.

You can find that video here:

Additionally, I’ve made extensive charts for ease of printing.  Hope this adds to your gardening notebooks!

Hello world! Welcome to my blog!

The purpose of this blog is to share our little slice of paradise with you! About five years ago, we got pretty focused on self-reliance and homesteading.  Slowly, but surely, we are working toward that goal.  We invite you to join us as we learn and grow together in the process. Lots of learning curves, DO’s and DONT’s.  We share it all!

In sharing our story, we hope to connect with others out there that are just pluggin’ along in life just like we are.  That’s the best way isn’t it? Life is about relationships.  We hope to inspire, laugh, learn, love and share with you and visa versa.

We will cover all kinds of homesteading topics from gardening, chicken-keeping, building projects, and cooking! Some of our experiences have been pretty humorous, so maybe it’ll be a good belly laugh, too!

Since my morning chores are calling, I’ll end with one of my favorite quotes.

Even a mosquito doesn’t get a slap on the back until he goes to work!”
